It is an unincorporated area and census-designated place with a 2020 population of 630, set among rolling fields and farmsteads on Freehold sandy loam soil. The township bills itself as the heartland of New Jersey, and Cream Ridge embodies that identity: it is one of the last sizable stretches of working farmland in a county otherwise defined by suburban development and the Jersey Shore.
