Cumberland County's Largest City

Rentals in Vineland, NJ

Welcome to Vineland, the most populous municipality in Cumberland County and the largest city by land area in New Jersey, set along the Maurice River in the heart of South Jersey.

Vineland anchors the southwestern corner of New Jersey, where Cumberland County meets the Delaware Bay region. The city lies along the Maurice River and spreads across roughly 69 square miles, making it the largest municipality by land area in the state. Its size gives Vineland an unusually varied character: a historic central core, established residential neighborhoods, and semi-rural edges that still carry echoes of the community's farming past. The city traces its origins to 1861, when developer Charles K. Landis purchased a 32,000-acre tract and laid out a planned settlement, recruiting settlers from New England and Italy. That founding shaped Vineland's identity, including a long Italian-American presence that endures today. During the first half of the 20th century, the surrounding farmland turned Vineland into a center of poultry production, earning it the nickname "the Egg Basket of America." Today Vineland functions as the commercial and population hub of Cumberland County. Its downtown centers on Landis Avenue, locally called "The Ave," a corridor of shops and a notably multicultural restaurant scene. The city is the region's main employment and retail center between the Delaware Valley and the Jersey Shore, and New Jersey Route 55 places it within commuting reach of Philadelphia. The population of about 61,000 includes one of New Jersey's larger Hispanic communities, reflecting the area's agricultural workforce and Vineland's continued role in food production and processing. For residents and relocating buyers, Vineland offers the services of a sizable city alongside relatively open space, larger lots, and easy access to the Pine Barrens and the Shore.
