Oceanport is a small borough in Monmouth County, New Jersey, set along the Shrewsbury River and Pleasure Bay just inland from the Atlantic coast. It was formed as a borough in 1920 from portions of Eatontown and remains a predominantly residential community of roughly 6,100 residents, characterized by tree-lined streets and a substantial amount of riverfront property. Two large institutions have long shaped the borough's identity. Monmouth Park Racetrack, a thoroughbred racing venue that first opened in 1870, is among the nation's most storied racetracks and draws crowds each season for thoroughbred meets and special events. Adjacent to it, Fort Monmouth served as a U.S. Army installation for nearly a century, with its research and communications work employing generations of local residents. Since the fort's closure, the site has been undergoing a long-planned redevelopment across Oceanport, Eatontown, and Tinton Falls, including a major Netflix Studios production campus that is reshaping the area's economic future. Oceanport's residential character is defined by its waterways. The Port-Au-Peck section along the Shrewsbury River holds many of the borough's larger waterfront and estate homes, some with private docks and deep-water access, while the broader housing stock consists of shore colonials, Cape Cods, and ranches on established lots. Pleasure Bay and the surrounding marinas support a boating-oriented lifestyle, and the ocean beaches of Long Branch, Monmouth Beach, and Sea Bright are only a few minutes away. Public education is provided by the Oceanport School District for elementary grades, with students moving on to Shore Regional High School, a regional district serving Oceanport and neighboring shore communities. NJ Transit's North Jersey Coast Line stops nearby in Little Silver, Red Bank, and Long Branch, linking the borough to New York and the wider region. Oceanport offers a quiet, close-knit setting with uncommon access to the water, racing heritage, and the Jersey Shore.
