Riverfront Borough in Monmouth County

Lots & Land in Little Silver, NJ

Welcome to Little Silver, a riverfront Monmouth County borough of tree-lined streets and historic homes between the Shrewsbury and Navesink rivers.

Little Silver is a borough in Monmouth County, New Jersey, occupying a setting between the Shrewsbury River to the north and the Navesink River to the south, a few miles inland from the Atlantic coast. It lies within the cluster of established towns — Red Bank, Shrewsbury, Fair Haven, and Rumson — that together form the Two Rivers area of northern Monmouth County. The borough's history reaches back to the colonial era. The Parker Homestead, built circa 1720 with materials from an earlier 1660s structure, was farmed by a single family from 1665 until 1996 and is preserved today as one of the oldest surviving buildings in New Jersey, listed on the state and national registers. The community grew as a farming and then a commuter village, and it was incorporated as a borough on March 19, 1923, from portions of Shrewsbury Township, following a local referendum. Little Silver's modern identity is tied to the railroad. Its station on NJ Transit's North Jersey Coast Line anchors the community and makes it a classic New York commuter town, with direct weekday service to Penn Station. That rail link, combined with strong schools and a quiet, tree-lined residential character, has made the borough a long-standing choice for families working in Manhattan or in the region's office corridors. For residents, Little Silver offers a small-town scale with access to Red Bank's restaurants, theaters, and shopping just across the border. The two rivers provide a waterfront backdrop and recreational outlet, while the beaches of the Jersey Shore are a short drive to the east. The result is a stable, low-density borough that prizes its historic fabric and its commuter convenience.
