Navesink River Shore Borough

Farms & Ranches in Fair Haven, NJ

Welcome to Fair Haven, a residential Monmouth County borough on the Rumson peninsula along the Navesink River, known for its highly regarded schools and commuter access to New York.

Fair Haven is a borough in Monmouth County, New Jersey, set on the Rumson peninsula along the Navesink River within the New York metropolitan area. The 2020 census counted 6,269 residents. It is bordered by Red Bank and Little Silver to the west and by Rumson to the east, placing it in the heart of the Two River region near the Jersey Shore. The area's history reaches back to the late 1600s, and the riverside community that became Fair Haven grew through the nineteenth century on the trades of the Navesink — boat building, oystering, and river work — alongside farming and the maintenance of large estates in neighboring Rumson. The borough later developed into a predominantly residential community, with its riverfront and its schools anchoring local identity. Fair Haven is best known today for its public schools. Students attend the Fair Haven Public Schools, with Sickles School serving kindergarten through third grade and Knollwood School serving grades four through eight, before moving on to Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School in Rumson. The strength of this school pathway is a central reason families are drawn to the borough. The Navesink River gives the borough a distinctly maritime character, with boating, sailing, and paddling woven into daily life. Its location also makes it a practical base for New York commuters: the NJ Transit North Jersey Coast Line stops in nearby Red Bank, and the Seastreak ferry provides a fast water route to Manhattan from the Highlands area. Combined with the dining and cultural scene of Red Bank and the ocean beaches of Monmouth County, Fair Haven offers a quiet, water-oriented residential setting with strong connections to both the Shore and the city.
